Reflections

I am so blessed to be a part of the Fort Myers Christian School family as I have since 1979 and doing what God has called me to do. As a girl I knew I would be a teacher, following in my mom's footsteps. As a college student, I was assigned to observe various teaching situations and fell in love with a classroom dedicated to working with students who had learning disabilities at Orangewood Elementary School. The rest is history, as they say! I found God's direction for my life and have been very blessed to accomplish my educational and vocational goals here at FMCS.

This 2010-2011 school year has been quite busy working with or monitoring 30 students throughout our K-8 school. Some students do not come to the Learning Resource Room, but receive accommodations in their own classrooms and/or therapy through the county or privately. Most students come to the LRP for a part of their day to receive intensive instruction in reading, spelling, written language, or math and some students just come for guided study hall.

I am blessed to work with such wonderful classroom teachers who are flexible and adept in their specialties. My assistants, Mrs. Sinex, Mrs. Yorty, and Miss Blanden have been my right arms as they stepped into each task excellently and loved my students, too.

Now, I look forward to planning for the 2011-2012 school year and am getting excited about the lives God will entrust to me once again. This summer, I will be praying for the students who will come through my classroom door in August and for the parents of those students. Life is challenging for parents and students alike when there are learning and behavioral situations that appear beyond our control. At those times, God is there! He cares about each part of the issue and wants to be involved in the solution. I depend on Him each day for wisdom and ideas to help each child reach their fullest potential.

This summer, I am looking forward to getting some tasks done at home that wait for this break. I also plan on visiting with grandchildren and extended family. So, have a great summer and I'll be ready for the first day of school on August 15th!
